2-year-old airlifted to hospital following accidental shooting in Overton area

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A 2-year-old was injured in an accidental shooting in the Overton area of Smith County.

According to Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith, calls came into the sheriff’s department at noon from the Overton Police Department about a toddler injured in an accidental shooting on the Smith County side of the Overton area.

Smith says the child was stable when he was airlifted to a Shreveport hospital and is currently undergoing surgery.

The child was taken to the Overton Fire Department after the shooting occurred. Overton Police Chief Bryan Pool says a call about the incident from OFD came in around 11:48 a.m.

Sheriff’s department investigators are waiting on an warrant to begin processing the scene.
