Jerry Jackson, a Jacksonville resident, said when he first heard the gunshots, he thought they might have been fireworks, saying the neighborhood is usually quiet.
A payphone sitting in a grassy area off Montgomery Street in Gilmer has drawn numerous calls from curious residents, some of whom had never seen one before.
The payphone is displayed on the Dean family property alongside old farm and ranch equipment. It still has an old rotary dial.
Some passersby thought it was a donation box, others an ATM. One person even thought it was a stand-up jail cell for a single person.

An East Texas man nearly lost $10,000 after receiving a scam call in which someone claimed his daughter had been kidnapped, according to Smith County Precinct 4 Constable Josh Joplin.
Around 9:35 p.m., Jacksonville PD reported multiple 911 calls about a shooting near Lincoln Park, near Davis Avenue and Holloway Avenue. Officers located three adult males who were wounded by gunshots.
