WINNSBORO, Texas (KLTV) - Winnsboro ISD will keep searching for an interim superintendent after taking no action during a special meeting Saturday.

The Winnsboro ISD Board of Education held a special meeting Saturday to consider the hiring of an interim superintendent following the arrest of former superintendent Brian Wilcox last month.

He was arrested Jan. 12 and charged with two counts of failure to report child abuse with intent to conceal. Current superintendent Aaron Nation and Brian Wilcox’s wife Ashley Wilcox, a former district employee, were also arrested.

School board members went into closed session about 11 a.m. to interview candidates for the interim superintendent position, as well as consult with an attorney about the pending federal lawsuit against the district.

Ultimately, the board did not hire any of the candidates, and Board President Brandon Green said they still have more people to interview.

Following the lengthy closed session, the board approved Kristie Amason as board secretary, and considered approving a settlement with the Kelley family but did not agree on the terms.

“Just on behalf of the board, I’ll say this, as far as this no settlement has been reached at this time,” Green said during the meeting. “Therefore, there is nothing to be released to the public.”

The family filed a federal lawsuit in 2024 over what they say were ignored reports of verbal, physical sex- and disability-based harassment of their child by two fellow students.

Board members voted to approve the district’s attorney’s response to the proposed settlement and go from there.

The board’s next meeting is set for Monday, Feb. 16, at the district’s administration office, located at 505 S. Chestnut Street in Winnsboro, but it’s possible board members call a special meeting to hire an interim superintendent before then.
