TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - It was all treats and plenty of fun at Mike Carter Field as the Tyler Junior College baseball team hosted its annual Halloween at Home Plate event.

Kids came dressed in their Halloween costumes, enjoyed candy, and met the players — who later took the field themselves for a costumed scrimmage. The event also featured a trunk-or-treat with participation from various TJC departments. TJC Athletic Director Doug Wren said the Halloween celebration has become a fan favorite on campus.

“This is something we’ve done for quite a few years now,” Wren said. “I believe this is the fourth year we’ve teamed up with Lauren Tyler and some other entities on campus to put on a great trunk or treat. And then obviously the baseball players being able to play in costume — it’s a great community event, something we look forward to every year.”

Players say the support from the community makes the night even more special.

“It is pretty awesome seeing all these guys coming out and supporting us,” said Anthony Martinez, a TJC baseball player. “It’s a pretty good feeling knowing they want to support us.”

For others, it’s an experience they look forward to year after year.

“A Halloween game, we got to dress up in costumes — I’d seen some videos on Instagram of TJC doing it,” said Sawyer Dunigan. “A couple other videos went viral, but yeah, I didn’t know what to expect. This is pretty fun. I had fun last year doing this.”
