TK Gorman football coach says main goal ‘to compete’

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - At TK Gorman, the football team is wanting to improve on last year’s mark.

For Football Coach Ed Burns, this is his second year with the team, so now he knows what he has, and the players understand what he wants from them.

“We’ll change certain things up; I think they know who I am,” said Burns. “They know who I am, in the school with them 24/7. They know their expectations of me. I tend to get a little crazy when they’re not met.”

Burns is hoping for less crazy this year and more wins. First and foremost, however, is this:

“Our main goal is to compete. You wanna be somebody to be remembered -- go out there and be like, ‘Oh man, I just got through playing a football game.’ So, competing is the first thing: going out there not being scared of anybody we match up against.”

“Everyone is ready to go into a dog fight and, just like, we have the energy,” said WR Jack Coan. “We’re ready to go hit someone. It’s been very helpful because, I mean, hard work is better than talent, so we want to compete from the beginning to the end.”

That’s the attitude Burns is emphasizing, and that will keep them in games. To compete is the goal.
