Family First: Coach Schottenheimer brings heart to Cowboys Camp
OXNARD, Calif. (KLTV) - At the Cowboys training campus, it’s not just about the blitzing, catching passes and learning your assignments after practice. It is a family affair. Something Coach Brian Schottenheimer deeply encourages.
Before practice was over, Schottenheimer was unhappy with his team and had them run. Fights were once again the reason, but after practice, the softer side of coach came into full view. Schottenheimer, alongside the players, engaged with their children after letting off some steam.
Coach related to the young kids being at practice as he reminisced of when he was their age, greeting his father Marty after practice.
“It warms my heart quite honestly,” said Schottenheimer. “I mean, I was the kid that after practice would run out and tackle my dad back, not in River Falls because I was old. But Lakeland Community College. Somewhere in Cleveland that was me.”
Wide receiver Cee Dee Lamb also talked of family being on hand after practice.
“Just having a great time, the camaraderie being a fan again and things of that nature be able to, like to mesh with the other families,” said Lamb. “Just spark conversations with them during the season, like hey it’s good to see you again. And then the vibes, the vibes are amazing.”
“You know they love you win lose, whatever it is they love you,“ said Schottenheimer. ”I try to make the effort to meet all the families, I don’t get to all of them but I try. I want to meet them I tell them. I tell the guys, ‘man your wife, girlfriend, your mom was here? How come you didn’t introduce me?’ They’re like my bad coach.”
“It’s what this practice should be about,” said Schottenheimer. “Go out there and compete against each other knock each other around for an hour and 45 minutes. So when it’s over, let’s celebrate with the one we love.”
