SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A Flint-Gresham Fire Department was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler on Toll 49 Thursday evening, according to a Facebook post from the Smith County Fire Marshal’s Office.

According to a press release, the Flint-Gresham Fire Department was dispatched out to a motor vehicle wreck at the intersection of Toll 49 and FM 2493 at about 6:20 p.m. Thursday. The fire department responded with one of its fire trucks.

While the Flint-Gresham firefighters were trying to find the crash scene, Engine No. 1 was struck by an 18-wheeler that had jack-knifed on an icy overpass.

“Flint-Gresham Engine 1 sustained significant damage and is currently out of service,” the press release stated. “The total extent of the damage is unknown at this time. The 18-wheeler also suffered significant damage as a result.”

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers worked the wreck scene, and a local towing company removed both vehicles from the roadway.

The press release stated that at the time of the crash, several crashes had been reported due to the icy conditions on bridges and overpasses in Smith County.

“As of this time, a replacement engine has been placed in service at Flint-Gresham, and there are no service interruptions,” the press release stated.

The post said no injuries were reported.
