Firefighters rushed to the hospital after garage collapses

Four Daingerfield firemen are recovering after a garage collapsed as they were battling a house fire.

Daingerfield Fire crews responded around 9p.m. to the 700 block of County Road 4107. When they arrived on the scene ,a part of the two-story structure was on fire.

According to Fire Chief Jimmy Cornelius, crews went in to defensive mode due to the home's rural location.

He said during their attack on the fire, an attached garage collapsed trapping three firefighters.

Another firefighter rushed over to rescue the three firefighters and was injured trying to rescue those trapped firefighters.

All four were transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview.

One firefighter remains hospitalized, while the other three have been released.

All are expected to fully recover from their injuries, according to Cornelius.

The structure was a total loss. The family that lived there was away from the home at the time of the fire.

Due to the injuries sustained during the fire, the State Fire Marshal's Office has been called in to investigate.
