Gift of Love: Robert

If you like staying active, we have a child you may want to consider adding to your family. This East Texas foster child's name is Robert. Here's his story in KLTV 7's Gift of Love report.

It's an afternoon of ups and downs at Jumpin' Jacks Party Shack in Tyler.

7 year old Robert gave me a run for my money.

"Likes to run and play outside. Play with trucks and airplanes, just all boy. Loves to play, love, love loves to play. He has a good imagination," said Jennifer Hays, Robert's CPS worker.

An imagination backed by a lot of energy.

Robert is a happy boy, despite being placed in foster care 4 years ago.

"He was removed because of abuse and neglect from his mom and dad."

Since then, he's been bounced between 3 different foster homes, making it hard for him to have a firm foundation on which to grow.

"The abuse has just made it harder for him to learn and to keep up other kids his age," said Hays.

Robert is developmentally delayed, but is improving with special education classes.

"He's gone from being able to say about 5 words total to being able to say 3 or 4 word sentences. So he's progressed a lot in the last year and a half."

This young boy needs a hand up, to help him grow up and reach his potential. And while he's shy at first, he quickly warms up.

"He likes to walk around and hold your hand and he'll give you a hug," said Hays. "He attaches pretty quickly and will get to know you."

Robert would do best as the youngest or only child in a family. He will need patient, supportive parents willing to work with him and give him that little boost that only the Gift of Love can give.

"He's just a really sweet kid who's been through a lot. He just needs somebody to love him."

If you'd like more information about Robert, you can call KLTV 7's Gift of Love hotline toll-free at 1-888-KIDS-275.
