Paris Hilton's early release from prison is a stark reminder of the perverted justice being levied on the west coast. But for those of us in east Texas it should be a warning.
And that warning is our justice system is only as good as those who administer it.
In the Hilton case, an elected sheriff made the decision for her release.
The key word here is, "elected."
If you decide not to vote, you are making a conscious decision to opt out on the administration of our laws.
In my opinion, the most dedicated voters are the extremists on both sides of the aisle. Left behind is everybody else who I believe not only represent the majority but who also represent the most rational views of this country.
If you're frustrated with the ineffectiveness of the groups assimilated in Washington, Austin or your own county courthouse, you have only yourself to blame, particularly if you don't vote.
But if we're going to keep our value system solid and make this a better east Texas, more of us will have to vote.
