Kilgore man’s family testifies in trial for fatal shooting over nude photos
LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) - Trial continued Wednesday for a Kilgore man accused in a 2015 murder, where a man was found in a truck with a gunshot wound to the head.
Jessie Clifford Brown, 42, was arrested in Oct. 2017 for the murder of John Allen Franco, of Liberty City. Back in May of 2015, investigators discovered Franco in his truck with a single gunshot wound to the upper left side of his head, according to an arrest warrant. A witness claimed Brown and two other men had pulled up next to them, when Brown allegedly got out and shot Franco through the driver’s side window. The witness told the investigator that Brown wanted to assault Franco because Franco had threatened to show nude photos of his stepdaughter, who the documents allege Franco formerly had a relationship with.
Wednesday began with testimony from a former officer who worked on the cell phone extraction in Brown’s case. According to the witness, the 3,000 page report resulting from the extraction largely consisted of texts and nude photos.
The next witness was Brown’s stepdaughter, over whom the original crime was allegedly committed. The woman recalled the timeline of her relationship with Franco, confirming the existence of the photographs but denying feeling responsible for the incident.
Brown‘s wife, who said they have been separated since 2018, took the stand next. She recalled that Franco’s body was left in a ditch after the incident.
Brown’s father in law was called next for the state. The man said Brown called him after the shooting and confessed to the action, saying it “got out of hand.”
A former investigator with the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office was called to the stand. He identified Brown in court, and a recording of an interview was shown. The video showed Brown refusing to admit to the shooting incident.
