SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Multiple fire departments responded to an East Texas school bus fire.
It started around 4 p.m. Friday off of Interstate 20 east near the Farm to Market Road 2015 exit.
Winona firefighters said this was an out-of-service Lindale ISD bus, so no children were aboard when the fire started.
Officials said the gentleman who was driving the bus had just purchased the vehicle and started smelling smoke, so he pulled over. That is when firefighters said the engine caught fire.
Jackson Heights and Winona Fire Departments responded to the fire that had traffic on I-20 backed up for miles.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
