On the ground in Moore: First-hand look at recovery effort
MOORE, OK (KLTV) - Reporter Cody Lillich is in Moore, and he found out today that the focus has turned to cleaning up that devastated city.
"Anything you can imagine is just thrown about yards: wood, boots, buckets, insulation, you name it, it was just thrown around in the storm and they're now focusing their efforts on recovering anyway they can. We've got energy crews from across the country, and also recovery crews helping any way they can," Cody said.
"People have been giving of their own time and resources to come from other states. We met one crew from Illinois who helped in the Joplin tornado recover, as well."
Cody told us there were storms Thursday morning, creating a temporary problem for recovery crews, but since midday the skies have cleared and relief operations have resumed.
Relief in the form of food came from Cargill came from as far as awa as Wichita, Kansas, to help feed those affected by the storm, and those who are helping relief efforts.
One of those Kansas team members, Michelle Davis, is originally from Tyler and says she is just happy to lend a hand.
"You know, I think it's important. We obviously are from the midwest as well. This is a good cause... we are certainly no strangers to bad weather, coming from Kansas," said Davis.
Wichita is no stranger to severe weather; just a day before the deadl Moore tornado, that city had a twister touch down.
They were very fortunate there was no loss of life.
There may be block after block of devastation still left to clean up in Moore, but one group is making sure they bring a different kidn of relief, one plate at a time.
