Caldwell Zoo has welcomed a new baby monkey and a new endangered rhino into the fold as their latest additions.

The Smith County Commissioners Court on Tuesday voted to approve new hours of operation for the Animal Shelter.

Testimony began Tuesday in the criminal trial of a Tyler man who prosecutors say influenced a friend to stab a Kilgore woman to death in 2021.

“Getting on the little electric scooter and running into the drywall and throwing books around and breaking some things. And so, it began to feel unsafe,” Nalls said. She says a gouge in a bookshelf, a chunk of missing drywall and a broken sign holder showed where damage was done.

Clay Cavender’s favorite part of the new store is a tribute to his family including pictures and a biography of his parents. “Oh, they’d love it,” Cavender said. “They would love it. My mom used to help me do all this years ago and yeah, she would love it. My dad, he would love all the family photos for sure.”
