Naskila is the largest private-sector employer in Polk County and has 700 jobs tied to the facility. They continued to pay employees even during the pandemic shutdown.

“I have to let all these limbs down slowly because there’s headstones underneath all of them. These headstones are pretty old. Some of them are from the 1800s,” Overman said.

Operation Hug raised enough funds to purchase eleven $50 game cards, for each of the students to go on a trip to Times Square Grand Slam in Tyler, where her third graders had gone on a field trip.

Despite being back in jail with bond set at $500,000, Smith District Attorney Jacob Putman said Traylor-Harris remains in office.

“Districts are looking for anything they can do to try and make their district appealing and trying to compete with neighboring school districts,” West said.
