Longview house fire ruled arson

Fire burns down a Longview home and investigators say it is a clear case of arson.  It happened Saturday night at a home in the 1400 block of Gay Street. Fire crews rushed to douse the blaze at the Gay Street home, but afterwards questions began to arise.

"Looking into it there were no utilities hooked up to it at all" says Longview Assistant Fire Marshal Jimmy Purcell. There was also no running water to the home, but investigators say people were living there.  "Its been like that for at least a couple of years," Purcell says.

Law enforcement was very familiar with this street and this house, and neighbors we spoke with say there was drug activity in the area of the house.  "The police department has been involved with the occupants here , myself," says Purcell.

Tell tale signs in the back of the home convince fire marshals its arson.  "It does appear to be suspicious because the point of origin there is nothing to contribute starting the fire in that area," says Purcell.

No one was home at the time fire crews arrived, and fire marshal's are continuing to talk with possible witnesses. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Longview Fire Department.
