Local Conference Hopes To Prepare Adults To Mentor Youth

On Thursday, June 19th, the East Texas Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (ETCADA) will host its annual Focus on Youth conference.  The one-day conference will be at the Pine Tree High School Little Theater, 1005 Pine Tree Road. Professionals and volunteers who work with youth will learn skills and information regarding problems and challenges that face young people in today's society.  Underage drinking and the use of tobacco products will be the focus of this year's conference.

Victor DeNoble, Ph.D will open the conference with an engaging and motivational presentation that will enlighten participants on brain chemistry and addiction, especially pertaining to youth development.  Dr. DeNoble is the scientist who exposed the truth about the Philip Morris Tobacco Company.

Courtney Pero is a sergeant in the Plano Police Department who specializes in fatal and non-fatal illicit drug overdoses.  Sergeant Pero's presentation will provide an update on drug endangered children.

Brenda Buck with Partners in Prevention will address the growing problem of underage drinking and Branden Johnson of Special Health Resources will address music and how it affects youth culture.

Juvenile Probation Credit and CEU's are available.  Cost is $50 at the door. Registration and exhibit booths will open at 8:30 a.m. at the Pine Tree High School Little Theater located at 1005 Pine Tree Road.
