Man Arrested For Copper Theft

Early this morning, Longview Police responded to Sobol Welding in Longview because of reports of a suspicious person.

Upon the officers' arrival, they saw a man lying face down on the ground on the side of the building.

An off-duty deputy who had been working security at a nearby business had been alerted to a black male that had been seen inside the fenced area of Sobol by a truck driver for the other business.

Officers checked the area and found welding leads that had been tossed over the fence by the suspect as well as other evidence linking him to the crime.

Michael Wayne Nickerson, 52, of Longview was arrested and charged with Theft of Wire/Cable containing 50% Aluminum, Bronze, or Copper under $20,000 which is a State Jail Felony.

His bond has not yet been set.
