Dr. David Lakey Named Commissioner of State Health Services

An East Texas physician has been appointed by Governor Rick Perry as the new Commissioner of the Department of State Health Services. Dr. David Lakey has served as the Chief of Infectious Disease at UT Health Center Tyler for the past 8 years.
"I'll be a part of an agency that has 11,000 employees that focused on improving public health and mental health. Also to decrease substance abuse and overall improving health of all Texans," says Dr. David Lakey.
Dr. Lakey succeeds Dr. Eduardo Sanchez. Dr. Lakey will begin his new job on January 2nd.
