Wood County Judge Resigns

An East Texas County Judge has resigned. Wood County Commissioners accepted Judge Royce McCoy's letter of resignation today.

Officials say McCoy was spending more time selling pre-paid legal services than county business. Mccoy and his wife had also recently filed for chapter 13 bankruptcy.

"I had asked him to let me know if he had planned to resign but this was the first indication that he really was going to resign.  But I do know that he was selling this on county time when he should have been at the courthouse.  And of course republicans believe in an honest days work for an honest days pay," says Kay Sloan, Republican Party Chair for Wood County.

McCoy's term would have ended in November. Commissioners hope to have his replacement appointed by Friday.
