LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - The Longview City Council has awarded a million-dollar bid for a centralized public transportation hub to a Marshall construction company.

The council approved a $1,036,000 bid for Casey Slone Construction at the Thursday evening meeting.

The funds will go toward the construction of a public transportation center for the city.

The center, set to be constructed across from the current Amtrak station on Mobberly would house not only the city's Amtrak buses but also city bus stops, as well as the East Texas Council of governments "Go Bus" services.

The plan also calls for relocating the current bus station at Magrill park, along with the restroom and office facility.

Construction of a bus transfer station and transit shelters are also included in the plan.

Construction is set to begin in October.

The cost will be covered through a TXDOT Federal Transit Administration Grant, Gregg County, and City of Longview transit.
