TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A study conducted at The University of Toledo suggests that spending hours on digital devices can eventually damage your eyesight.

The research shows the effects of the blue light emitted from the sun and digital devices and found that it can transform molecules in the eye's retina, speeding up the onset of macular degeneration, which is a leading cause of blindness.

An eye doctor in East Texas says while the research is still limited, he does see a lot of patients coming in with symptoms from being on their devices throughout the day.

"Well, blue light on our devices contributes to what we call computer vision syndrome, dry eye, eye fatigue, eye strain, headaches and all of that is pretty prevalent in our young adults," Dr. Jacob West says.

West says he has seen an increase in patients coming in to his office that now need glasses because of the time spent on their devices.
