Pittsburg man named in federal meth conspiracy indictment

TEXARKANA, TX (KLTV) - A federal grand jury has indicted a Pittsburg man along with four others accused of distributing methamphetamine in East Texas.

Melvin Anthony Smith, 54, is charged with conspiracy to distribute and posses with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Also named in the indictment are Stinson Lesley, Wesley Haley, Norman Spruiell and Laura Pace.

Smith was booked in to the Titus County Jail on Thursday.

According to the indictment, the five are accused of distributing 50 grams of meth or more in the eastern district of Texas dating back to March 2016. Smith was arraigned on the charge Thursday in the Texarkana federal courthouse and a future court date has not yet been set.

The indictment was filed on May 16 but unsealed after Smith's arrest.
