TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Construction on John Tyler and Robert E. Lee high schools is well underway.
Tyler ISD voters approved a $198 million bond proposal in May of last year for construction and remodeling projects at the schools.
"You won't recognize John Tyler from the loop when we get done, and you certainly won't recognize Robert E. Lee either," said Tim Loper, Director of Tyler ISD Facilities.
He is optimistic that everyone will approve of the changes.
"I'm excited that we're going to get these new facilities because it is well-deserved, for not only our kids and staff, but for the community. I think it is something everyone will be proud of," said Loper.
So far, both projects are meeting their respective deadlines.
Robert E. Lee's new academic building should be ready to move into by August of 2020.
As for John Tyler, the academic updates should be finished by 2020 as well. Plans to revamp the stadiums and athletic fields should wrap up by 2021.
