Overton ISD student charged with making terroristic threat
OVERTON, TX (KLTV) - An Overton ISD student has been charged with terroristic threat and was escorted off campus today by Overton police.
According to Chief Clyde Carter, the 15-year-old male student made threats last week and several students came forward to report it. Carter could not discuss the specific threat, however, did say the student was taken to the Rusk County Juvenile Probation center.
According to Overton ISD Superintendent, Stephen DuBose, this morning Overton ISD High School Principal, Cindy Bundrick, was informed of a possible threat made by a student last week.
The student was escorted to the office upon arrival this morning and was questioned by school administrators and Overton officers. The student was taken into custody by OPD and was never in the classroom or around other students today.
OISD administrators continued the investigation by speaking to a number of students who were witnesses to the alleged threat, according to DuBose, and have confirmed that at no time was an OISD student or employee in danger.
DuBose says Overton ISD takes every incident or threat seriously and will continue to provide a safe and secure environment for students.
DuBose says no further statements will be made unless further developments occur. All actions were done so in an abundance of caution to protect OISD students and employees.
