Mount Pleasant fatal crash still being investigated

MOUNT PLEASANT, TX (KLTV) - The identities of those killed and injured in the horrific crash in Titus County on Friday have been released.

It was around 8:20 Friday morning that authorities were called to a 5 vehicle crash on Highway 271 at Interstate 30, in Mount Pleasant.

Investigators are still trying to unravel what happened, examining all factors in the collisions.

"They're still doing an investigation into what happened. At this time I don't know what happened," says DPS trooper Sylvia Jennings.

The DPS released the identity of the driver who hit the minivan. 64 year old Wanda Gebhart of Pikeville, Tennessee was pronounced dead on scene.The minivan driver, 42-year-old Jeffery Brokish from Savoy, Illinois, remains in a Tyler hospital.

His wife, 41-year-old Jessica Brokish, and two sons, ages nine and six and a two-year-old daughter were pronounced dead on scene.

"The last vehicle which was behind the 3 truck tractors and was caught in between the truck tractor that hit them from behind," Jennings says.An earlier rollover wreck had slowed traffic eastbound.

An hour afterward, with lanes already backed up, the second crash happened.Investigators are looking into every aspect of what may have contributed to the ensuing multiple collisions.

"Traffic had backed up because the two eastbound lanes were blocked off.  The last truck tractor that hit the minivan for whatever reason, the driver did not notice that traffic had stopped," says Jennings.

According to DPS, the third vehicle struck was driven by 42 year old Carlos Martinez. He as well as his passenger, 20 year old Juan Martinez, were from Mexico, and both transported with minor injuries.

The fourth vehicle struck, was driven by 43 year old Rav-shan Ibragim,  from Dayton, Ohio.He was also transported with minor injuries.
