(KLTV) - Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was given the keys to the offense once the team traded Alex Smith, getting help on defense in return for the now Washington QB.  Sammy Watkins as good of a long ball threat as there is, when he's healthy.

A former top pick for the Bills, as a Rams player he wasn't the main target in the Rams high flying offense. That will be different in KC; he has soft hands and speed of which has never had a bad day.

The NFL free agency season kicks off Wednesday at 4 p.m. Then it's official, Watkins is expected to receive a three-year deal worth $48 million, $30 million guaranteed.

Already stacked on offense, KC returns three pro bowling playmakers TE Travis Kelce, RB Kareem Hunt and WR Tyreek Hill.  On paper with those three and Mahomes, they should score minimum 30 points per game.  But offensive line needs some work, don't make Mahomes do more than he has to. Remember he's still learning and young QBs have to learn on the job.  That's why it is so key to surround him with big time playmakers.
