LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas country music artist gets recognized by the state and the city he lives in, not for his music, but for his patriotism.

Every morning, Neal McCoy has been reciting the Pledge of Allegiance on Facebook for the last year and a half.

Sunday was his 500th pledge, and to mark the occasion, he received official recognition from the governor of Texas and a proclamation from the
mayor of Longview making May 21, 2017, Neal McCoy Day.

McCoy takes the time to talk to people who follow his pledge ever morning, and says the effort is something he is honored to do.

"We certainly didn't start this pledge to be recognized by our mayor of Longview or our governor of Texas, we just wanted to say the Pledge of Allegiance,
show people how I feel about our country.

Started 500 days ago, never thought it would grow to this. 50 million views in the last year and a half.

We want people to love our country, and to show they love our country and one way they can express that is the way we used to do it when we were kids.

Say the Pledge of Allegiance every day, it's good stuff" McCoy says.

Though he performs numerous concerts around the country, Neal plans on continuing to recite the pledge of allegiance every morning, no matter
where he may be.
