KILGORE, TX (KLTV) - Kilgore police were called on to find a wanted man, said to be clad only in cutoff jean shorts, and ended up chasing the suspect on foot and wrestling him to the ground.

Police say they were called to Turner Street Friday afternoon in regards to a wanted person by the name of Andrew Alexander. Officers say they were questioning the grandmother of the suspect when Alexander approached officers. An investigator noticed the man was armed with a large Bowie knife, which was sticking out of his pants. According to police, the investigator was able to disarm the suspect by wrestling him for the knife in the front yard of the grandmother's residence.

The suspect was able to get away, however, and fled the scene on foot. A perimeter was set up, and the K-9 force was called in to assist, police say.

The police department released the following assessment of the situation:

The suspect forgot to put a belt on today and was trying to hold up his jean shorts and was losing speed, so he tried to run between two houses to find refuge. He found himself boxed in between a high fence and residence. Officer Angela Burch saw that he was cornered and exhausted, so she stepped out of her vehicle. The wanted person fell down and gave up to her (probably her easiest arrest of her 22 year career)."

Alexander was wanted on two theft warrants and an aggravated robbery charge, police confirmed, and he is currently in the Kilgore jail awaiting transfer to Gregg County.
