Longview fire responds to car fire near East Texas Literacy Council office

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - At around 12:30 p.m., the Longview fire department responded to the report of burning vehicle on 1st Street near Tyler Street.

According to officials, a woman from Kilgore arrived to the East Texas Literacy Council to take a test. When the woman arrived, she parked her car and went into the Literacy Council with her young daughter.

When the woman went out to get her purse, she noticed her car was on fire and called the fire department.

Longview fire say that when they arrived the car was fully involved, and the fire was threatening the building, but they were able to put the fire out.

At this time it is unknown what initiated the fire. No one was hurt but fire fighters did retrieve the woman's purse, along with her daughter's pony toy.
