Female inmate found dead in Harrison County Jail

HARRISON COUNTY (KLTV) - Harrison County Investigators and Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a female inmate in the Harrison County jail.

According to officials at the Harrison County Sheriff's Office, the inmate was arrested by Marshall PD on Friday at approximately 4:00 PM, for shoplifting and possession of drug paraphernalia at the Marshall Wal-Mart store.

Officials say she was transported by Marshall PD to the Harrison County jail for the shoplifting charge, along with 2 unrelated warrant charges. The suspect was booked in the jail for the charges and placed in a cell. At approximately 7:45 PM on Friday, she used the telephone to contact her husband and then returned to the cell. She was discovered unresponsive in that cell during a jail check at approximately 11:43 PM.

The Sheriff's Office says jail staff immediately contacted Marshall EMS and attempted to revive the inmate, but she was unresponsive and EMS could not revive her. Judge Nancy George was notified and the inmate was pronounced deceased at approximately 1:00 AM on Saturday morning.

Due to the pending investigation by the Texas Rangers and the Harrison County Investigators, no identification of the inmate and no other information will be released, at this time.
