Driver sentenced to 10 years in prison for fatal hit-and-run in Kilgore

KILGORE, TX (KLTV) - UPDATE: After pleading guilty to accident involving death, a second-degree felony, Kyrsten McCarty was sentenced by a judge to 10 years in prison.


An East Texas woman charged in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 5-year-old boy will appear in court today.

Kyrsten McCarty, 26, has waived a jury trial and is expected to enter an open plea this afternoon. Investigators say she was at the wheel of a van that struck a child, Robert Moorhead, on a Kilgore Road in August 2015.

He was riding his scooter in the street and died from his injuries. McCarty faces a felony charge of accident involving death.
