SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - On Friday, nearly 2,000 lavender flyers were sent out to Smith County residents with outstanding warrants.

This kicks off the county's 5th annual warrant round-up.

County leaders said in the 2016 warrant round up, they were able to close more than 500 cases and they are hoping for even more success this year.

"If they still have an active warrant, they could be arrested at their home. Their place of business school. The warrant does not go away until the case is paid off," said Smith County Judicial Compliance Supervisor, Sheryl Keel.

The warrants stem from money owed on various court fines. Those who received one of the round-up flyers have until February 25th to take care of their warrants.
