SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A wreck temporarily closed several lanes of traffic on Interstate 20, at Mile Marker 571, near the Highway 271 exit, after an 18-wheeler explosion on Monday.
Around 11:30 a.m., authorities were called to the scene of an overturned 18-wheeler east of the interstate, according to Sergeant Jean M. Dark with Texas Department of Public Safety.
The 18-wheeler caught on fire and exploded after a one-vehicle wreck. Officials did not say what the truck was transporting that would have caused the explosion.
The Smith County Sheriff's Office said one of the drivers was flown into ETMC with serious injuries.
A hazmat crew assisted with the explosion while fire crews inspected the truck.
