LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Shelters in East Texas are all in agreement that just because you don't have a home doesn't mean you won't get a Thanksgiving meal.
The Highway 80 Rescue Mission started their Thanksgiving yesterday and continued it today. Wednesday they had more than 50 volunteers serving and preparing since they were open to the general public, but today it was just open to their guests who are staying at the facility.
"We want to treat them just as special as anybody else so we still have all the decorations up, all the smiles going and a great traditional meal going so the turkey and the green beans and the cornbread and all that good stuff," said Highway 80 Rescue Mission's Volunteer Coordinator Stefan Arredondo.
Today they served up more than 200 meals. The grand total, including yesterday, was nearly 1,000 meals served.
