EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - Here are a few vigils scheduled to honor 10-year-old Kayla Gomez-Orozco


The public is invited to join in a prayer rally, organized by seniors at Brook Hill School, in memory of Kayla Gomez-Orozco on 6:30pm Sunday in the Brook Hill School gym, located on 1051 N Houston Street in Bullard, TX

Anyone going is asked to wear pink in honor of Kayla.

Tyler ISD:

Robert E. Lee students have organized an event to provide support to Kayla's family. The event will take place on Monday, Nov. 7th. They will have tables set up in the school cafeterias for students to write letters of condolences to the Gomez-Orozco family. The will also have a balloon release in honor of Kayla which will take place on the football field starting at 4:20 p.m. Everyone is asked to wear pink in Kayla's honor. Robert E. Lee High School is located on 411 E SE Loop 323, Tyler, TX 75701.

Jack Elementary School will be having a prayer vigil at 5:15 p.m. on Sunday in memory of Kayla, who was confirmed to be a 4th-grade student at Jack. The elementary school is located on 1900 Balsam Gap. Tyler, TX 75703. Parking may be limited so non-Jack ES staff are asked to park at Faulkner Park nearest the Tyler Police Station and shuttle as Tyler ISD buses will be on hand. Please plan to arrive early. Shuttles run from 4pm until 5pm, returning to cars once the event is over.

Tyler ISD also released the following statement:

We are saddened to learn that the body of Kayla Gomez-Orozco, the Jack Elementary school student who has been missing since Tuesday, Nov. 1, has been found.  Our hearts and sympathies go out to Kayla's family and friends as they come to terms with this painful and senseless tragedy. 

We ask that you keep the students and staff at Jack Elementary School in your thoughts and prayers. Additional counselors from throughout the District will be at the Jack campus next week to provide assistance and support as needed for staff and students.
