TYLER, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas toll authority has voted on increased safety measures for Toll 49.

In September, we told you about a letter sent to NET RMA that manages Toll 49 in Smith County, calling for safety upgrades to be reconsidered.

Net RMA says they've been listening and, in a meeting Tuesday, approved consideration of a four foot flush median on all segments of Toll 49.  Initially, they had proposed a four-foot width on all sections except the section where six people have died this year.

The widening on that section from highway 31 to I-20 will not include the bridges on that route. The project will cost $2 million.

NET RMA says the next steps for the project would be to pass a change order to support the construction of the improvements.
