CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Cherokee county officials are still looking for the person or people behind an overnight shooting that killed one person.

27-year-old Mario Rodriguez was found shot to death inside a truck on county road 4502 near New Summerfield.

The normally quiet road was filled Sunday afternoon as law enforcement investigated Rodriguez's Death.

Officials say just after midnight, they received a call from Rodriguez's father.

"He had taken his father's truck to the store in New Summerfield to buy some items at the dollar store and he didn't return home. And after 4 or 5 hours the father called and reported him missing," Cherokee County Sheriff James Campbell said.

Campbell said around 9 a.m., they found Rodriguez shot to death inside his father's truck.

"The victim was taken to another location but we believe this is the location where the shooting occurred," Campbell explained.

Campbell said they do believe foul play was involved in this death. As of right now, they have not identified a suspect.

"We're looking for two or three people of interest at this time but that's all I can say," he said.

Rodriguez lived a few hundred yards from the scene where officials were investigating. Campbell said it's an area they've been to before.

"There's several families that live a short distance away from here and he lived there and we've had a few calls out to this area," he explained.

But Campbell stressed that they do not believe the suspect or suspects are still in the area where Rodriguez was found. He said Rodriguez's body was sent to southwest forensic labs in Dallas for an autopsy.
