LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Longview police are investigating after a body was found inside a burned vehicle Sunday.
At 12:53 p.m., officers were dispatched to assist Longview Fire Department in the 1400 block of Sabine Street.
Officials say that when officers arrived they were told that a vehicle was on fire near the railroad tracks. After the fire department extinguished the blaze, officials found a body in the driver's seat of the truck.
Gregg County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace B.H. Jameson responded to the scene. Jameson said the body was burned beyond recognition and was unable to tell the gender of the person.
According to the Longview Fire Department, the cause of the fire has not been determined but it does not appear it was intentionally set.
Police say the case remains under investigation and the body has been sent for an autopsy.
