Former East Texas haunted house owner arrested for child porn

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The former owner of a popular East Texas haunted house has been arrested on a child pornography charge.

Derek Ryan Laepple, 36, of Tyler, was booked into the Smith County Jail on Aug. 18 and is sitting on a $500,000 bond. He is the former owner of the Terror Nights Haunted House in Tyler. According to the arrest warrant, police found child pornography uploaded to a Flickr account and on his cell phone. It also said an "extensive quantity" of adult pornography was found on his laptop.

We're told the haunted house has since been sold, but that the attraction will still open this year with new ownership.

Wild Card Entertainment has purchased the attraction. Representatives from the company say they have hired Elite security firm to be at the event, which they say is new this year. They also say there will be security personnel as actors in the haunted house as well as newly installed security cameras so they can monitor what's going on. The company representatives also say the name of the attraction will be changed next year.
