VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Chris Sanders is still in disbelief at what he recorded on his cell phone Tuesday.

"I've definitely watched it a few times. It's definitely different knowing that you're the one that shot the video and was there."

Sanders was just stopping by the Canton Travel Center before heading home from work when he says he saw two men arguing at the gas pumps.

"When I came back out, I saw the gentleman who had the gun arguing with someone who turned out to be his brother in the Suburban. He was pretty irate."

Sanders says another man, D-Jay Stevenson, a maintenance worker at the travel center, asked the two to leave, "..was trying to tell them to leave, 'need to get out of here, you're causing problems' and they got into an altercation. That's when I started recording, 'cause I figured there was going to be a fight."

Sanders' cell video shows a man yelling obscenities toward the business, before retrieving something from the Suburban and walking back toward the store. A few moments later, a single gunshot is heard on the recording. The man jogs back to the Suburban and they drive off.

Sanders describes what happened next.

"I ran inside and saw the gentleman shot, lying on the floor. He'd been shot in the stomach... He was definitely in pain, definitely in shock. He kept saying 'he shot me, he shot me.'"

Sanders, who served six years in the military, says he never expected to witness something like this.

"I've seen things, but this is the first time I've actually been involved with something like this in the civilian side, and it blew my mind."

Tuesday night, the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office said they had suspects in custody.
