WOOD COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A man who is suspected of burglarizing multiple East Texas churches has been arrested.

Wood County sheriff's deputies have arrested Cota Allen Marks, 25, of Winnsboro in connection with the case.

According to a sheriff's office release, the investigation began June 2 when deputies were dispatched to take reports of several overnight church burglaries in the Winnsboro area and the north part of the county.

Deputies say the suspect gained entry to Cross Roads Church and the Tinney Chapel Church. Unsuccessful entry attempts were made at several other churches in the Winnsboro area.

A couple of days later, investigators identified Marks as a suspect in the case. When Marks was located, he was found with stolen property that had been taken from the two churches. Officials say that property included a number of animal trophy mounts and stereo equipment.

Marks was also found to be in possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia. He was charged with two counts of burglary to a building, one count of burglary of a vehicle and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

He is being held in the Wood County Jail on $70,000 total bond.

The sheriff's office is processing the recovered property in order to return it to the churches.
