Tyler ISD announces new Tyler Lee head boys basketball coach

Tyler ISD announces the hire of Coach Alan Simmons as the new boys varsity basketball coach at Robert E. Lee High School. Coach Simmons comes to the District from Rockwall High School where he has served as math teacher and head boys basketball coach since 2007. While at Rockwall, Coach Simmons led his team to three state playoff appearances (2009, 2012 and 2016) as well as an area finalist finish in 2014.

Coach Simmons has also served in Lindale ISD, Beckville ISD, Irving ISD, Temple ISD and was an assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor from 1990-1991. Over his 22year career, Coach Simmons has won at least one playoff game in 14 of those seasons and averages 17 wins per year. His teams have accumulated four district championships, 10 bi-district championships, three area championships, one regional quarterfinalist, one regional finalist, one regional championship and one state semifinalist appearance.

"We are very excited to name Coach Alan Simmons as the next head basketball coach at Robert E. Lee," Tyler ISD Athletic Director Greg Priest said. "Every person we've spoken to about Coach Simmons has had nothing but praise about his character and integrity. He brings a history of success and a great ability to develop and lead young men and we are fortunate to have him."

Coach Simmons is a graduate of Nimitz High School in Irving, Texas and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas.
