(KLTV) - A Wood County man, whose life sentenced was overturned in 2013, was found guilty Tuesday in a retrial.

On Wednesday, Jason Payne was sentenced to life in prison for the murders of his wife, Nicole Payne, and stepson, Taylor Wages. Payne was originally sentenced in 2010 for the shootings but was granted a new trial in 2013 after the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals reversed his conviction.

"There is not a day that goes by that we don't miss Nicole and Taylor," the Wages family said in a statement after the verdict. "Today justice was served again.  We are extremely proud of the Wood County officials and law enforcement.  We are forever grateful to Captain Miles Tucker with the Wood County Sheriff's Department. Captain Tucker was the lead investigator on the case who relentlessly pursued justice."

The family also said that they would like to thank the state for their work on this new trial.
