MALAKOFF, TX (KLTV) - The area in and around Malakoff was badly hit by the storms Tuesday afternoon.

The damage was widespread in the area with a lot of damage along Highway 31 and Crossroads Drive.

Within minutes, residents say trees were down, tin roofs blown off, and nerves rattled.

"It never happened here before so it was scary," Kristi Dalrymple said.

A tree fell onto two of Dalrymple's cars, while her family watched from inside their home.

"It was nerve racking I was worried about the kids and my neighbors," she said.

Nathan Johnson was in his truck under a carport, trying to take his girlfriend and their siblings to a safer area, right after he left to check on them in the house, it collapsed.

"I got up and ran to the back porch and by the time I got there I'd seen it fall. The truck was running and everything," he said.

"The neighbors trampoline ended up in our pasture on the other side of my house. The top of our pine tree over there fell down in the backyard," he added.

Over off of Highway 31 the roof and the porch of the Skip Goodwin Cattle Company building were blown off. Pieces of tin from the building across the road ended up in the front of their business. One of the employees saw it all.

"And the water is coming around that's why I said oh' that's a tornado', but it didn't touch the ground," Felix Martinez said.

"We run inside the house," he added.

Martinez lives right behind the business' main building. His home wasn't damaged but pieces of the roof and porch from that main building were blown behind it. the wind knocking over a flag pole as well.

But soon people began picking up the debris and covering damaged roofs before the next round of storms came in.

There has not been any confirmation of a tornado touching down in that area.
