TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The wife of presidential hopeful and Texas Senator Ted Cruz was in East Texas Saturday.

"We love America and we love Ted Cruz and we think he's going to do the best for America," said Doug & Ruth Ann Copeland.

Heidi Cruz shared with East Texas supporters what she believes this presidential race is all about.

"This election is about people in this country that have been left behind. That have become angry, that Washington and the elected political class have started to ignore the people, the voters," Cruz said.

She says her husband is the ideal candidate because he's someone they can trust.

"Ted is the same person today that he was 16 years ago. The word consistency, character, fighting for what he knows to be true are things that people who work with him see exemplified in his character every day," Cruz said.

Tyler residents Doug and Ruth Ann Copeland say they met Senator Cruz in 2013 and they say they trust Ted because he is well educated.

"He knows the law better than anybody, the constitution better than anybody and he would get us back, save America," Doug Copeland said.

Supporter Forrest Crawford, of Rusk, called Senator Cruz relatable and says his record speaks for itself.

"We watched him closely that he was going to do the things he said he was going to do and so far he has he's been that kind of guy," Crawford said.

Mrs. Cruz says her husband will bring people of all background and social classes together because of their common moral principles.

"People know that Ted is genuine. He's speaking for them, he's fighting for them. I don't care what race, color, creed you are people turn out and vote for someone they think is fighting for them," Cruz said.

Mrs. Cruz says, going into Super Tuesday, she and her husband are confident - but urged their supporters to get out and vote.
