LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money? No, this is not a story about the billion dollar Powerball jackpot; it's on a smaller scale than that.

Recently a Longview woman won $10,000 playing the lottery, and instead of spending all the money on herself, she decided to share with others.

You see, the winner, Nedrata Carter doesn't like to see people go hungry.

"No I don't. Not at all," Carter confirmed.

So she thought she'd do something about that after she brought home a scratch-off lottery ticket on Christmas Eve. She bought the ticket at a Longview convenience store, and had a successful scratch.

"I started screaming and running through the house and my daughter was like 'mama what's wrong?', and I was like 'just please tell me this ticket says what I think it says.' She was like, 'I don't want to see it.' I said 'please look at this ticket and tell me that this is what I think I won.' And she looked at it and she said, 'mama, you just won $10,000.' She said 'Merry Christmas,' and I said 'thank you, God,'" Carter recalled.

She had always told others she'd do something to help if she ever won big.

"The first thing I did was call my friend Veronica Williams. I called her and I said I need a homeless shelter so that I could be able to help the homeless and she said Newgate on Mobberly," Carter explained.

She was about to get familiar with Newgate and Demetria Anderson.

"She could donate food or hygiene products because we give those out on a daily basis," Anderson said she told her.

So she went shopping and helped fill the shelves at Newgate. But she didn't spend all the money.

"Everybody's saying get a car. No, I don't want a car. My car is paid for, you know, just fix it up a little," Carter revealed.

She wants to be sure she can drive back to Newgate.

"When I pulled up and saw that they were getting ready to eat and they were lined up, that just touched my heart," Carter said.

And her generosity is pretty touching too.

Nedrata Carter says she will play the billion dollar Powerball Lottery, but she's not going to spend a lot of money on picks. She says if she survives the shock of winning, that she would probably build a new shelter.
