MINEOLA, TX (KLTV) - The Mineola mayor and Assistant city administrator are now sharing responsibilities after Interim City Administrator after David Stevenson was fired for an alleged "gross mismanagement of the city," according to Mineola Mayor Rodney Watkins.

Watkins explains.

"Not just financial, but mismanagement of operations in general...If someone did not take the money, embezzle the money, or steal the money and the money is just gone, and the council was never informed of it, it's a problem."

Watkins says it appears Stevenson had been misrepresenting the city's revenue for multiple years, and that as much as $1.3 million in revenue was fabricated.

"I've been charged with getting it back on track, and that's what we'll do, me and the council will do," says Watkins.

The city is currently awaiting the results of an audit.
