RUSK, TX (KLTV) - The Rusk County Sheriff's Office is searching for a suspect they say fled the scene of a shooting that left one man dead late Monday night.

Deputies were called around 10:17 p.m. to County Road 3281 to reports of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found one man dead from apparent gunshot wounds. A family member confirmed that the victim was Eugene Bryant of Garrison.

Witnesses told deputies the suspect, identified as Demetrius Terrell Bennett, 19, fled the scene in a red Pontiac Firebird, head south on CR 3281. The car was later found abandoned on County Road 3285 in Smith County.

Bennett is described as a black male, 5'10", weighing around 155 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He's believed to be in southern Rusk County, northwestern Shelby County, or northern Nacogdoches County.

If you have any information about Bennett's whereabouts, you're urged to call the Rusk County Sheriff's Office at (903) 657-3581, or a local law enforcement agency. Bennett should not be approached, and is considered to be armed and dangerous.
