Postal service employee resigns following investigation into mail strewn on road

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - An employee of the U.S. Postal Service has resigned following an investigation into more than 100 pieces of mail strewn across and alongside a Smith County road.
According to the U.S.P.S, the subject of the investigation has resigned from their duties, although they did not say how the person was involved in the incident. In September, a teen found the mail littered across County Road 1134 in Smith County.

The USPS says they are continuing to investigate the situation. A mail theft conviction can be punishable with as much as 5 years in prison.
